Auto Insurance For Hail Damage
Many severe thunderstorms can bring hail. If you have a homeowner’s policy, it will cover damage from hail as a normal part of the coverage. Your car may be a different story. Unless you have comprehensive coverage, your car most likely is not covered for hail damage.
Comprehensive insurance covers more than hail. This is the part of your insurance policy that covers glass, collision with an animal, theft, vandalism, and if the car burns, in addition to hail. Some people opt to go without this coverage as a way to lower their premiums.
Depending on the age and condition of your car, it is probably wise to add comprehensive coverage to your auto policy. The added premiums per year will not add up to a single bill for extensive hail damage.
